TECHNICS GX7

Although the GX7 console looks rather like an aeroplane cockpit it is remarkably easy to use - you have a button for each sound - no more scrolling through menus!

The GX7 delivers incomparable sound and playability. All the sound sources are PCM for natural realism. Plucked or percussive sounds such as piano and guitar come through with all of their delicate dynamics. Woodwind and brass instruments exhibit amazing richness and power. Delicate timbral variations and vivid dynamics bring out the expressive character of flute, trumpet and many other solo sounds. Flute tab pitches cover the full range, further extending musical horizons. Seven upper and five lower flute pitches allow a broad variety of registrations for everything from classical to popular genres. In addition to five fixed organ presets, sixteen representative organ combinations are instantly available. These comprise four registrations for pipe organ, four for entertainment organ, and eight for jazz and rock organ. For instantaneous access you can assign up to four of these to the organ program buttons - ideal for rapid switching between genres as diverse as classical, big band, jazz and Dixieland. Imagine the string section of an orchestra, or a full choral ensemble - both are built into the GX7. Each voice group is equipped with a harmonic control button. This allows independent selection of three tonal characteristics - bright, normal or mellow. The twelve bass presets are complete with timpani and tuba. Timpani can be mixed with other bass presets. Though normally played on the pedalboard the bass presets can be shifted to the lower keyboard for deft bass solos - simply depress the full bass pedal when the bass solo button is on. You can perform in the atmosphere of a spacious cathedral or concert hall with 4-mode digital reverb. Background sounds allow you to perform using environmental sound effects, five refreshing stereo sounds from town and country - thunder, wind, birdsong, waves and bells. Thirty-two fully orchestrated rhythm patterns let you match almost any musical genre. Fill-in and ending buttons provide rhythmic flexibility. A special variation button supplies further alterations in the rhythm pattern. It is even possible to compose original rhythm patterns using a palette of 36 percussion sounds - create main rhythms, fill-in variations and ending patterns. The GX7 is stately in appearance, yet designed for the operating convenience of the organist - an excellent quality all round organ.

PCM Upper Poly Presets

Plucked or percussive sounds such as piano and guitar come through with all of their delicate dynamics. Wood wind and brass instruments exhibit amazing richness and power. The secret is PCM digital recordings of actual musical instruments.

PCM Lower Poly Presets

Independent of the Upper Poly Presets, these have their own expressive timbres in the percussive, brass and synth categories. Therefore, it is possible to use the upper and lower manuals to play two different polyphonic sounds at once - piano and guitar, sax and brass, or any other combination - adding lush layered effects to every musical style.

PCM Special Presets

These offer tonal variations - brighter timbre, for example - of the poly presets such as piano and jazz guitar. When doubling the sound with the same instrument from one of the poly preset sections, you can produce a still thicker ensemble sound. The program pitch function adds further detuning effects. Creative variations are easy with these advanced musical resources.

PCM Solo Presets

Authentic solo instrument sounds give the GX7 extraordinary musical vitality. Each is an actual digital PCM recording of an accomplished musician playing a fine instrument. Delicate timbral variations and vivid dynamics bring out the expressive character of flute, trumpet and many other solo sounds. Whether the passage is fast or slow, the solo instrument timbre seems perfectly matched to playing requirements.

PCM Bass Presets

Acoustic bass, electric bass, chopper bass, synth bass, pipe organ, string ensemble, timpani and tuba are some of the twelve bass presets. Timpani can be mixed with the other bass presets. Bass 16' and 8' can be mixed or used independently. Though normally played on the pedal keyboard, these voices can be shifted to the lower keyboard for deft bass solos - simply depress the full bass pedal when the bass solo button is on.

PCM Tab Pitches

Flute tab pitches cover the full range, further extending musical horizons. Seven upper and five lower flute pitches allow a broad variety of registrations for everything from classical to popular genres. When combined with a piano or other percussive preset, flute tablet pitches continue while the percussive preset sound decays when keys are kept depressed.

Organ Program

In addition to five fixed organ presets, sixteen representative organ combinations are instantly available. These comprise four registrations for pipe organ, four for entertainment organ, and eight for jazz and rock organ. Selection is convenient, using the Musical Director. For instantaneous access, simply assign up to four of these to the organ program buttons - ideal for rapid switching between genres as diverse as classical, big band, jazz and Dixieland.

PCM String / Vocal Ensemble

Imagine the string section of an orchestra, or a full choral ensemble - both are built in to the GX7. The realism of the vocal ensemble sound makes it suitable for many genres in addition to religious music - creative applications abound.

Harmonic Control

Each voice group ( poly, solo, special etc. ) is equipped with a harmonic control button, useful for matching the mood of the music. This allows independent selection of three tonal characteristics - bright, normal, or mellow - for the upper poly, lower poly, solo, special, and bass presets.

PCM Rhythm Presets

Thirty-two fully orchestrated rhythm patterns let you match almost any musical genre. Included are a complete selection of contemporary rhythms with 8-beat, 16-beat and disco as well as standard march, swing, and waltz times. Fill-in and Ending buttons provide rhythmic flexibility. A special variation button supplies further alterations in the rhythm pattern. The drum sound alone can be mellowed by using the Drums Mellow function.

4-Mode Digital Reverb

Reverberation is such an essential part of musical performance that the GX7 is equipped with advanced digital reverb PCM digital processing LSI chips. Four modes ( cathedral-like HALL 3, spacious HALL 2, smaller HALL 1, and ROOM ) and three intensity ( depth ) levels permit fine tuning of the effect to best enhance the music.

Background Sound

Five environmental sounds add a touch of nature to your music. Pick from PCM digital recordings of thunder, wind, birdsong, waves, and bells. Useful for textural variation and subtle background effects with a broad range of music, from classical to experimental.

Sound Variation

Displayed in the Musical Director Sound Program screen, these eight sound variations include accordion, guitar and trombone. They select alternate timbres for the particular instrument sounds in each preset group: poly, special, and solo. For example, you can make a trombone sound bright or mellow, depending on the style of music. Presets having sound variations are marked with an underline under the control button.

Program Pitch

A powerful tool for greater expressive flexibility, the Program Pitch function can be used to slightly detune the special preset sounds - useful for creating exciting synthesizer effects. When programmed sounds and poly presets are combined, programmed pitch can further thicken the resulting ensemble effect.

Rhythm Sequencer

Like chords, the rhythm patterns can also be sequenced to automatically change along with the progression of a piece. Fill-in, Ending, and tempo changes can be included as well.

Composer

Now it is possible to compose original rhythm patterns using a palette of 36 percussion sounds assigned to the lower keyboard. Create main rhythms, fill-in variations, and ending patterns. Both step recording and real time recording are possible. Six original presets can be stored.

PCM Accompaniment

A selection of Rhythmic and Melodic pattern groups enable automatic accompaniment that includes the environmental sounds. Linked with the chosen rhythm presets, these provide further support for creative performance.

4-Channel Output.

The GX7 incorporates an innovative 4-channel amplification and speaker system which includes a sub woofer and dual tweeters. The sub woofer's bass reflex enclosure and the horn loading for the tweeters contribute to acoustic efficiency for wider dynamic range. Tweeters are mounted to the left and right of the player to enable optimum monitoring.

Play Sequencer

For purposes of data storage and reproduction, each preset section - bass, lower, upper, and solo - is handled independently. The organ can then play back each of these parts, separately or together. You can increase or decrease tempo, as desired, without causing any change in pitch. Imagine the possibilities. Each part can be recorded independently and then played back simultaneously, acting as accompaniment while you play along. Or all parts can be reproduced at once, convenient for self evaluation. The Play Sequencer records all computerized feature data, including the PCC, and VSC functions described below. This data can also be stored on to floppy disk, using the built in Digital Disk Recorder.

Fullband Setting Computer

Store all settings, including PCC and VSC data, for five songs. Then bring them back at the touch of a button as required by the performance program. No longer must you adjust settings manually when going from one piece of music to the next. The computer can even take care of fill-ins and changes in instrumentation. Simply concentrate on the performance and leave the rest to the Fullband Setting Computer. For expanded capacity and permanence, this data can be saved on floppy disk, using the built in Digital Disk Recorder.

Musical Display

A liquid crystal display reveals a wealth of music information. This makes it easy to confirm the tempo, chord and bass tones, and is particularly helpful for keeping track of program steps and chord changes during PCC data input. MIDI data too is shown in this display window.

Program Chord Computer ( PCC )

You can store and recall chord progressions for automatic accompaniment. Storage capability includes voice and effects registration as well as fill-in and intro data. This leaves both hands free for melody lines and embellishments. A flexible tool for beginner and expert alike.

Voice Setting Computer ( VSC )

This facility provides for storage and recall of seven groups of settings, each encompassing all of the selected voices, volume levels, and effects on the control panel. Once the data is stored, you simply press a button to change settings instantly, at any time in a performance.

One Touch Play

This provides 32 complete accompaniments ( and registrations ) for all kinds of music including those not covered in the preset rhythm menu. The Musical Director makes it easy to select the desired genre. Timbres, effects and accompaniments are all perfectly matched.

MIDI Terminals & Controls

The Musical Instrument Digital Interface is for interconnection of musical instruments. MIDI equipped devices can 'talk to' other similarly equipped units, including many synthesizers, sequencers, and personal computers. Any part of the Play Sequencer data can be sent through any desired channel to enable remote control of other MIDI devices. The Musical Display simplifies MIDI octave shift and MIDI channel settings. Complete MIDI IN, OUT, and THRU terminals are provided.

Built In Digital Disk Recorder

A built in floppy disk drive is ready to record and retrieve a massive stock of performance information. Store you repertoire on disks, creating a library of data to recreate successful performances. No longer is there any need to go through the same registration setting procedures every time you repeat a piece of music.
